《三国英雄传》是根据中国长篇章回体小说《三国演义》改编摄制的一部大型古装戏。它是以东汉末年和三国时期为背景，故事起自黄巾之乱，终于西晋武帝统一中国。全剧中描写了四百多个人物，成功地塑造了许多性格鲜明而具有艺术魅力的典型形象，如诸葛亮、刘备、关羽、张飞、赵云、黄忠、周瑜、董卓、鲁肃、孙权、曹操等，都给人留下深刻的印象，且在原著的基础上，增添了戏说既野史成分，英雄也有儿女情长，本也合情合理，因《三国演义》原著本是小说而非历史，增添的女角戏并不影响剧情，相反还点缀了原本是“只充满勇武、缺乏温柔细腻”的“男人世界”，为之增色不少！几百年来《三国》的故事在社会上流传很广，随着故事的流传，三国的人物和情节，以各种形式流传开来，人们也从这些三国主要人物正反面形象上，吸取教益，认识社会，体会人生哲理，譬如曹操作为反面文学典型，对它的描述，人们也起了很大的认识作用和教育作用。
