这部以真实故事为基础的作品，讲述了在第二次世界大战中遇到的日本海军军人和意大利人的故事。1943年9月，潜水艇“哥曼但丁”号？卡佩里尼号为了运送物资去了日本。出发时是与日本结成同盟的轴心国，但卡佩里尼号出航后意大利又回到了联合国。乘务员阿贝雷、西莫奈、安杰罗不知道意大利是日本的敌国，期待着受到热烈欢迎。等待着这3人的，是鬼的样子的日本海军少佐？速水洋平。他制定了重新武装卡佩利尼号为战斗用而编入帝国海军的计划，坐上了那个舰长的位子。并且作为乘务员，采用了被俘的阿贝利等人。另一方面，速水的妹妹？早季子在自己家的旅馆里照顾意大利人，但是アバレ对早季子一见钟情，接触到了速水的逆鳞。
