《尖刀》是一部年代戏。说的是新中国成立前夕我一支尖刀队与敌斗智斗勇，巧妙周旋，最后克敌制胜的故事。
一战德军王牌飞行员“红男爵”Manfred von Richthofen的故事。 他是一名德国飞行员，被称为王牌中的王牌（ace of aces）。他也是战斗机联队指挥官和第一次世界大战击落最多敌机的的战斗机王牌，共击落80架敌机之多。
黄蝴蝶（邵美琪 饰）是一个失意的编剧，几经波折，已经堕落到向闺蜜阿娟（毛舜筠 饰）探讨三级片的程度。胡蝶的邻居警官吕奇（梁家辉 饰）对她颇有好感，后者在英雄救美后意外得到了她家的钥匙，然而他的不请自来，却落得狼狈而逃。因为事业接连遭受重创，胡蝶决定在江边横刀自尽，然而怯懦 的她终于没有自裁，反而盲打误撞惊扰了一对偷情的鸳鸯。后者仓皇逃窜，却遗留了一些私人财物。为了物归原主，胡蝶和阿娟一同登门，却无意中卷入了一场黑吃黑的血案。侥幸逃生的胡蝶临走前，还多事地留下了黑玫瑰的字条，而阿娟却因为留下了手印而被警方对号入座。结果，黑玫瑰成为了全城热议的话题，而这也引起了黑玫瑰掌门人（冯宝宝 饰）与师姐（黄韵诗 饰）的注意，于是一场剪不断理还乱的情场争夺战开始上演了……
调查局机动组组长方国辉（刘德华饰）精明干练，嫉恶如仇，与手下华恕堂（陈中泰饰）、梅美丽（郭静纯饰）、倪建国（钮承泽饰）组成了一个调查小组，对黑帮首领周朝先（梁家辉饰）经营的电玩场进行监拍得经营地下赌场证据而告上法院。周收买了法官而获判无罪释放，而方亦被勒令休假，停止对周调查。电视台女记者凌飞（吴辰君饰）主动为方国辉打气。负责此案的侯部长（李立群饰）从中施压摆平方国辉，周在记者会上公开宣布退党，跟代表党竞选的黑帮大哥丁宗树对着干，参选立法委员，要进一步控制台湾的政治。方在凌飞的激励与法务部冯部长（赵文宣饰）的直接支持下重回岗位。丁宗树想杀死方国辉，嫁祸于周朝先。可惜最后功败垂成。
几十贼寇身后的巨船之上缓缓放下一艘小艇，一青袍男子稳稳站在艇上，手上提着一只贝壳风铃。
