破烂王》根据辽宁本溪的一个真人真事改编，讲述改革开放初期，一群废品收购人员创业的事迹。一个破烂王收破烂起家，后来成为了一家钢铁公司的老板。刘蓓在剧中饰演破烂王的女儿，起初被分配到文化馆工作，后来文化馆一个工作人员追求她，她没有同意，结果被人挤兑，调到收破烂的公司。在新的工作单位，这个人物经历了从一开始特别抵触、到后来干得特别投入、特别出色的这么一个过程。
